Ofill ECHEVARRIA

Born: 1972, Havana, Cuba. Ofill lives and works in New York City.

Education: He studied the Elementary School of Fine Arts '20 of October 'and the Academy of Fine Arts of San Alejandro, both in Havana. I received BFA from the Academy of Fine Arts of San Alejandro in 1991. In his early years as a student at the primary school of fine arts, also known as the School of 23rd & C, he founded together with some of his best friends the controversial and famous collective of the art of Havana Street Art [Street-Art] Group. The group, as has been pointed out by many scholars of the time, is part of the Cuban art scene of the late eighties due to its series of murals, graffiti, happenings and performances between 1986 and 1988.

Experience: In 1991, with an invitation letter from the Diego Rivera Studio Museum, Ofill travels to Mexico City, where he has lived for ten years, showing his work mainly in the Nina Menocal Gallery. In 2002, after presenting the exhibition "Icons / Reflections" at Praxis International Art, also in Mexico City, Ofill moved to Miami. In 2005 I moved to New York.

Since 2002, represented for the first time by Praxis Mexico, which in turn became Galería Alfredo Ginocchio a few years later, Ofill has exhibited his work extensively in Latin America and the United States of America, both individually and participating in many trade fairs . international art exhibitions and groups. I recently started showing in Europe too. His work is part of important public and private collections.

In 2013 he launched his book "The World of the Living I The Real World", which contains several essays by renowned Cuban and American art experts and includes works of art from 2001 to 2012. Echevarría's style and technique are based on the tradition of photography, documentary and painting.
